We manifested our first ever #BackyardBowl Gala on November 1st, in less than 6 weeks, and in spite of the fact that so many of us evacuated fires. It was made possible by remarkable unity and a collective force of individuals that came together to support a movement of love, hope, home and healing. It was led by our gala co-chairs Lucila, Holly, Harvey, Shawn & Serena, Carol, Greg, Julie and Jimmy, as well as the ASOH board, gala committees, advisory, staff, volunteers, and the heartfelt passionate MC Jamie Foxx who set the tone of authenticity, heart, passion, and humanity. Our profoundly generous hosts Charlotte and Gary Gilbert dug deep and shared their resources as well as their home. We were thrilled to be able to honor our Angel pillars, Ambassador Nicole Avant, Ted Sarandos, Jena King, Irena Medavoy, and Angel Vanguards Jennifer Stallone and Bui Simon.
Thank you all for joining us as we celebrated in epic style thanks musical acts, Quavo of Migos, Tyrese, The War& Treaty, and Jamie Foxx . Each performed with immense artistry and heart while @patsypalmer and @djmdot provided the beats . The brilliant Peggy North and the team of Fire and Creme designed and produced the entire event. The exquisite furniture that guests reclined on that is now going into homes was generously donated by @urbanology by @Ashleyhomestore. The stylish bar was thanks to @MoetandHennesy .
Special thanks to founder Melissa Goddard and co-founder, AJ Vernet -- not just for the event but for five years of 24-7 commitment and heavy lifting.. We have bootstrapped the building of this nonprofit — since day one. We haven’t been out raising money we have be doing the work and that has forced us to be lean and efficient and finely tune the model and demonstrate how much can be done with so very little. A Sense of Home is needed in every major city and we are proud to announce that we have designed a successful model to make that possible. Now let’s amplify this across the country in 2020 and create a paradigm shift built on human connectivity.
